Education and Training
Why do professional race teams have more computers
than tool boxes?
Race Engineering
is about understanding what is actually happening so we can make better
decisions on what and how to optimize.
That is why we use
computers, data logging, ECU data, pen & paper and critically – driver
feedback to get the best picture of what actually happened.
Understanding
data gathering and interpreting is critical in racing – we have helped individuals to
large groups to come to grips with these concepts and technologies.
We provide
different types of training/education; from individuals for a
few hours to large day seminars.
The instruction is
always targeted to the group for example: a group of young divers
learning how to critically evaluate their performance using data
logging, or someone wanting to tune their motor and verify that the engine
is working optimally or a large group seminar to get a grounded
introduction to race engineering and data logging.
If you have a quest to get a
better understanding on how certain things work – then we can help you
achieve those goals.
When I work for a
team I don’t only try to try to contribute and find the important issues
to work on – but I try to give them a better understanding of why and
how to do things themselves.
If we get a whole team
thinking and understanding what is happening everyone can make better
decision in their own context – ‘knowledge shared is knowledge squared’.
For example when I
am hired to tune a motor – I like to at least spend a few hours with the
owner and explain how it works.
If they understand at
least the basics about their ECU, then they can perform basic trouble
shooting, tweaking at the track, what not to touch and when the map
would need to be updated, etc.
I have found that customers
that have this little better understanding – I have less follow up
questions, they can do basic trouble shooting and are much more
confident as the mystery has been removed.
For
the past couple of years I have been invited to teach the computer in
racing/data logging section at the
Wodonga Motor Sport School.
This is a great program
for people whom want to get an introduction and good experience in the
industry.
The program has gone through some
changes in the past few years and is highly recommended for people
wanting to get a start in the industry.
New high
school program – we are piloting a new
program to get young students interested in math and science through
Race Car Engineering.
Many young people have
a passion for motor racing but not for math and science – we plan to
show them through practical examples how critical these subjects are in
this field as well as many others that they would not have thought of.
Many careers are much more
technical now then most imagine and having a good base understanding is
critical for their futures.
There are other
seminars and training courses that we highly recommend –
see educational links.
Most Formula-1
teams have over nine hundred employees – and they still say that they
don’t understand everything.
Race car engineering is complicated – so
increasing your understanding is critical in winning!
